Meet Your instructor

Thomas Hettrick is an actor and teaching artist who trained in both classical and contemporary performance. He earned his BFA in Acting from Marymount Manhattan College, studying Shakespeare under John Basil of the American Globe Theatre, and later completed the Two-Year Meisner Training Program at the Maggie Flanigan Studio. Thomas also holds an MFA in Acting from The Actors Studio Drama School.

His professional credits include the international tour of Green Day’s American Idiot (dir. Michael Mayer), the Sundance feature Ten Thousand Saints alongside Ethan Hawke and Hailee Steinfeld, and the film adaptation of The Seagull directed by Mayer. Since moving toCharleston, he has appeared in commercials, films, and stage productions including Cabaret and The Mousetrap at the Queen Street Playhouse.

Thomas is passionate about sharing his craft and helping actors unlock the power of truthful performance in both Shakespeare and modern scene study.

You’ll discover how much Shakespeare actually helps you when you know where to look. Dive into the hidden clues he left in the text—repetition, capitalization, prose, punctuation—and learn how these little details can inspire big, bold, and totally original performance choices.

Each session focuses on one key element of Shakespeare’s writing, giving you a clear path to understanding the text and transforming it into compelling, grounded, and exciting performance moments.

CONTEMPORARY SCENE STUDY FOR ADULTS

If you’ve got questions, this class helps you answer them—onstage!

In this lively four-week acting workshop, you’ll dive into modern plays and learn how to use the script as your roadmap. From understanding obstacles and goals to sharpening your active listening and observation skills, you’ll explore the essential tools actors rely on to create honest, compelling performances.

Whether you’re brand-new to acting or already have some experience, this class gives you the chance to jump into a scene with fellow actors and develop it week by week. You’ll discover how to find clear objectives, raise the stakes, take things personally (in the best way!), and build strong acting habits that stick.

And at the end of the course, you’ll put it all together in a final performance where you can show off your growth and newly polished skills.
